Residing in southern New Jersey, Jim Cottingham has been developing his work in oil pastels. His love of abstract painting has deep roots in his favorite artists - Jim Dine and Richard Diebebkorn. He also has blended his interest in classic cars with his unique style of painting, taking commissioned work for classic and antique car enthusiasts. You can find Jim enjoying the occasional car show, demonstrating his latest work, or enjoying adventures to the shore, gaining inspiration for his interpretation of beach and bay.

Jim is an accomplished painter with awards and gallery showings. Having majored in oil painting and ceramics in college, he has a small painting and ceramic studio in his home. His love of pottery has led him to start experimenting in alternative firing of his ceramics. Jim also enjoys teaching, and he looks forward to the times he can help students develop their artistic talents.

“I’ve been an artist all my life. I was always drawing or painting. In High School it seemed you could always find me in the art room. I graduated from Millersville University with an art degree, focusing on oil painting and ceramics.” Jim

What People are saying…

Jim,

Just a short note to say Thank You! for the outstanding job you did on the painting of my 1921 Ford Model T Depot Hack. You exceeded my expectations by capturing the body lines and woodwork with exceptional attention to the smallest detail. Your work is proudly on display in our family room and has received many compliments by our friends and other artists as well! Thank you again, as I look forward to additional commissioned work of other cars in my collection.

Jim Cottingham’s painting truly captures the spirit of my dream car – a 1964 Karmann Ghia convertible. The jazzy little red convertible image almost jumps out of the frame! The colors of the subject and background are vivid, bright and very fun. I wish I could jump in the picture, pop open the door and take it for a spin! This piece is going to be the focal point of our upcoming recreation room renovation. I am sure it will draw many compliments from family and friends!
